Fear Preys Upon Uncertainty
Instinct: The Power to Resolve or Avoid
The threat of wild animal attacks worried primitive people. They had the pressures of obtaining and protecting their food. Fearing dangerous animals and strangers, they had to either fight or run when confronted. Today, we usually don't have to fight or run; yet, we still maintain this fight or flight instinct.
Now, when we come face to face with adversity, we use this instinct as a power within us to either resolve or avoid unpleasant situations. If we run from them, we build up pressures that are difficult to release - creating tension and fear within us.
When we stand our ground and confront adversity, we may experience being overwhelmed, but our convictions strengthen us. Fear maintains its hold over us only if we give up. Courage strengthens us and dissolves tensions produced by fear.
Nutritional Link to Fear
Fear preys upon uncertainty. It weakens our determination if we allow our doubts and confusion to surface to the forefront of our minds. Every time that we give in to our fears we lose strength and confidence.
Some people have so little confidence that they compensate for it by never leaving their homes. They may know that their fears are not rational, yet there is a panic and shaking from within themselves that nothing or no one seems to be able to help.
When fear becomes overwhelming and normal functioning is impossible, drugs or institutionalization is the usual course of help. However, are drugs and institutionalization necessary? Is this the best care available to the person afflicted with panic attacks? Perhaps not.
What Appears to be a Psychological Problem May Sometimes be a Nutritional Imbalance
Eating refined products that contain artificial additives, preservatives, coloring agents and bleaching agents along with smoking, alcohol, coffee and drug abuse create havoc with the psyche. Toxic substances contribute to symptoms of anxiety, panic attacks, and fear.
By cleansing the internal body of toxins through using botanical supplementation and whole food nutrition, the body has the opportunity to heal itself of anxiety related symptoms.
Continued fear and resultant stress on the body can lead to a depletion of the adrenal glands. They provide adrenaline in response to reflex reactions. Depletion of the adrenal glands may also lead to a depletion in immunity to disease.
If you have unexplained tiredness, depression, or other anxiety-related symptoms, consult a health professional who can help you determine the nature of the imbalance.
Abusive Incidents Leave Unhealed Scars
Imbalances occur over many years. After a while, the body cannot tolerate them. We abuse the body by eating toxic foods, but what most concerns us is physical and emotional abuse.
Many children grow up in households where ridicule and other emotional or physical abuse are common. Abusive incidents leave unhealed scars and many abused children become dependent upon alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.
Children are naturally dependent and many are unable to be dependent upon a sensitive human being. The love they crave from a family member becomes directed toward a toxic substance that punishes the body - sometimes to the point of death.
Unloved children often have poor diets. Poor nutrition denies the brain of the proper balance of nutrients that is necessary for healthy mental and emotional growth. As children enter into adulthood, many stressful situations may occur over time that puts tremendous demands upon their bodies. The body must rush nutrients to the brain to nourish it during prolonged stress.
When there are not enough nutrients to properly nourish the brain, those who are not properly nourished may feel despondent and barely functional. They may feel that their lives are out of control. Old fears resurface.
Stress Feeds Fear
Some abused children mature into healthy adults, leave behind their frightening childhood, and live their lives productively. However, for some of these people, if a particularly stressful situation occurs, their minds revert to the disturbing past of their childhood and actual pain and illness - both physical and psychological - can occur.
Healthy, enzyme-rich food such as raw fruit and vegetables strengthen the immune system while preventing downward spirals of health during times of great stress.
Tiredness, tension, and worry are physical as well as psychological problems that drain us of energy. We lose energy because the absorption of energy supplying nutrients become blocked. However, the body has a survival factor in terms of energy boosting.
As the body loses energy it rushes signals to the brain requesting an energy boost. The brain relies on experience to determine what provides a quick energy boost. It looks to familiar energy sources. People who have little regard for their body will choose toxic substances. Those with high regard choose natural, wholesome products to supply energy.
Correct Choices Nourish the Mind, Body, and Spirit
Those who consume toxic substances such as alcohol, drugs, coffee, cigarettes and junk food often form dependencies upon these items. The chemicals within these products create less energy, deeper depression, and greater anxiety. It is necessary for these people to find help before the toxicity worsens.
We all have naturally occurring instincts that provide insight and clear direction. Trusting our instincts that signal us as to the general state of our wellbeing, we can leave behind the fears and miseries of a traumatic past by correct choices of how we nourish our minds, bodies, and souls.
Life is a series of seemingly small choices that add or detract from its quality. We measure our fearlessness by the difficult choices that we confront without running away.
